This recent TED talk by David Eagleman is mind opening – literally. He speaks to how humans and animals perceive their environment. He then shows a technology he has developed that allows deaf people to “hear” and that may allow all humans to perceive more.
I tend to be skeptical of TED’s unquestioning emphasis on technology as the savior to all planetary problems and there are implications of this talk that I question (e.g. Transhumanism).
Presentations like this also open the doors of perception for humanity. Mr. Eagleman speaks to how humans typically sense less than one ten-trillionth of the electromagnetic spectrum. His assumption here is that we are all the same. However, what if some humans can already sense slightly more of the electromagnetic spectrum than others?

In my world, which is largely somatophobic, AWARENESS, YOGA, ENERGY MEDICINE … embodied … helps me F-E-E-L subtle energy.
How does this technological ELECTROMAGNETIC “peripheral” interact (interfere?) with my biological ELECTROMAGNETIC “peripherals”?
Um, what about non-ionizing RADIATION?

Ted has a reputation for being a platform for Transumanists. The first person to develop the technology for the deaf was Patrick Flanigan who appears in a superb film–Holes in Heaven, narrated by Martin Sheen. He had trouble patenting the invention because the military wanted to use it as a microwave weapon. Interesting stuff.
