The following instructions will help you setup your D-Link camera. They were provided by a reader who initially had trouble getting the DCS-5030L camera to work properly.
1.) We installed the Powerline Adapter kit. The first mistake we made was putting one of these into our wireless router extender – this setup didn’t work with the camera. When I placed one adapter into our main router and the second adapter into the baby’s room, it worked with the camera. I will note, that we tested a laptop with one adapter plugged into the wireless router extender and the second adapter in the baby’s room, and we were able to connect to the internet, so there must be something related to the camera that made the setup not work. I would suggest that individuals test the powerline adapter kit internet connection with a laptop or something else that connects to the internet to ensure that it is setup correctly before tackling the baby monitor camera.
2.) In talking with MyDlink technical support, they walked me through the following steps:
After downloading the MyDlink application and signing up for the service:
a) Disconnect cellular data on the phone through settings (this was for an IPhone 7, but she shared it would be the same for an Android, or another phone).
b) Connect to the 2.4Gz wireless connection (we have both a 5.0 and 2.4 GHz connection).
c) Where the directions instruct you to “add a new camera,” select the “Local” tab on the bottom.
d) Scan the QR code or manually enter it.
e) The app will prompt you to plug in the camera, allow it to boot-up.
f) The app will ask if you have a WPS button on your Wi-Fi router; select “No.”
g) The app will direct you to “Ethernet Connection” or “Direct Connection;” select “Ethernet Connection.”
h) Plug the ethernet cable into the camera and the powerline adapter in the baby’s room and select “Next.”
i) The app will instruct you to wait until the Power LED turns solid green. Look at the baby camera and wait for the light on the front to turn solid green then select “Ready” in the upper right hand corner. The camera should connect to the application. There “may” be a prompt about sending an email to verify your account. Simply go to your email and select the link to establish the verification for your account.
j) To access the camera, the app should bring you back to the window where you originally added the camera. Select the “Remote” tab on the bottom.
k) If you don’t see the camera you just installed listed there, hit the “refresh arrow” in the upper right hand corner.
l) Next to the DCS-5030L camera should be a cloud; if there is a red X or no cloud, then contact mydlink’s technical support phone number.
m) Select the camera, and the app should direct to a window with a view of your camera monitor.
Mydlink’s tech support was able to walk me through the setup for steps “a” through “l.” I didn’t get to step “m” until I tried a couple of different combinations with the powerline kit adapter.
If you have any further questions/issues, Mydlink’s technical support number is: 1-877-453-5465.
Note: Another user followed these instructions and it worked for the iPhone, but not his Macbook laptop. There may be an issue with Apple computers and D-Link. The D-Link rep could not figure it out.
